Testing and comparison of an active dry wall with PCM against a traditional dry wall in a relevant operational environment

As the building stock plays an essential role in meeting Europe’s climate target, suitable strategies are necessary for sector transition. This paper compares two dry-multi-layer walls characterized by different compositions: one applies heat reflective insulation with Phase Change Materials (PCM), while second uses traditional glass wool batt. The experimental tests were conducted a retrofitted building, VELUXlab, multi-testing laboratory located at Politecnico di Milano University (Italy), as of main outputs TEPORE project granted Lombardy Region. temperatures and Heat Flux measured through sensors between inner outer surfaces wall (Dry Wall) false-wall PCM (Active Dry Wall). goal was to compare technologies evaluating performance during daytime nighttime winter season. Outcomes showed advantages application on space heating energy needs, revealing that their integration into decreases temperature 1°C 30-40% thermal savings envelope losses per week cold seasons compared wall. study reveals layer reduced peak 2.67 W/m2 accumulation release period.
